Official Poster

Checkout my website and take a look at some of my work! Right now in my career development class we have to create a website, so the next 9 weeks are going to be spent re-designing it and vamping it up!

The Living Arches Music Video Shoot

Here's some screen shots from the video shoot I directed. Right now the video is still in post-production and has been for longer than I like to admit. I've found that I really dislike editing so I've been procrastinating working on it. Anyway, I had so much fun working on this video. I knew that I couldn't do a video for music that I didn't have some sort of emotional response to, and I was running out of time to find a band, so I really lucked out. I absolutely love their style and their music and I think we were a perfect fit. They were so patient with me (and still are while they wait for the video) and I would love to work with them again.
Jensen (left) and Micheal (right). They make up The Living Arches.

A lot of the stage is made up of personal items that belong to the band. The idea behind the set-up is a cozy/homey environment within an empty space, so instead of going out and finding random props and objects, they wanted to use their own items to really make the setting belong to them.

This is Archie (RIP). Micheal really loves beta fish so I thought it would be cool to put one in the video. I placed him in a clear flower vase and put him on the table inbetween Micheal and Jensen on stage. Unfortunately he was a bit shy and hung around the bottom of the vase, so I have to add insert shots so people know whats in there and don't think there's a random vase filled with water sitting on the table.

The things hanging from the ceiling are photostrips. I got a fantastic photographer and set up a photoshoot to take pictures that resembled a photobooth. Micheal and Jensen did such a great job with coming up with different faces to make, different clothes to wear and props to use, etc...I got the strips printed out in traditional photostrip size and hung them from the beams. They really add this great element to the whole set while they sway in the background of some shots.

Business Card Design 3

While I'm fond of the previous two designs, this one is my favorite and the one I spent more time working on and enhancing. I like the more
whimsical aesthetic and concept. I created the jar in illustrator and only added a few highlights, the rest of the highlights and glow I added in
photoshop. I chose a darker background color to make the light blues of the jar stand out and added a texture for good measure.I started off with a black circle shadow underneath the jar, but after looking at some references I changed it to the glow color and warped it to look like light streaks on a surface. You might not be able to notice but the wings of the film reels are film strips with a glow to them. Obviously the film reels represent fireflies, but instead of glowing butts I made glowing wings. I remember catching fireflies when I was younger, so this logo/design has more meaning to me than the other two.

I decided that the whole thing was a little boring and didn't stand out much. I wanted it to have more depth with a little more character. So I added some bokeh to the background and added a Gaussian blur to really push it into the background.

Next I tried a different font and added some more highlights to the jar. I chose a cursive font to keep the aesthetic more on the light side. If I chose a serif font, I felt it would be too bold and awkward to the design.

I decided I wanted to try something other than just a textured background, so I removed the texture and went for a gradient...I know gradients are over-used and unoriginal, but I couldn't resist. I'm not sure if I like the gradient better or just the solid color. I also decided I would give a heavier font a try. I'm not upset I did because it actually gives the composition more balance.

Next I tried a two color gradient.

I favor maroon more than navy so I changed the gradient back to one color but kept it maroon.

Finally, I changed the font back to white thinking there was too much yellow. Not sure what font to use so I kept both the serif and cursive font. when it comes time to print I'll make my final decision.

Business Card Design 2

This second design incorporates the basic outlines I mentioned in the first design. I was inspired by a poster I saw for Death Cab for Cutie. I took all the outlines and figured out the placement, realizing that rotating some of them helped with a fit and made it a bit more interesting. I searched for a font that was extremely bold so that way it wouldn't get lost among the outline of the objects. I think this design might be a little too cluttered even though I made every attempt to make it readable. The color I'm leaning toward is the pink because the text stands out better amongst it and pink is my favorite color :)

Business Card Design 1

Now that I'm in the final classes for school, one of those classes is a career development class. We had to create three business card designs to start. Not really knowing where to start I began finding images on the internet of the typical things related to film. Then, with the images I found, I took them into illustrator and made basic outlines of them. I took one of the outlines and brought it into photoshop onto my business card and the vector was too large for it, but I liked the way it happened to be placed on the artboard. I played around with different colors and these are the two I liked best, and the text is similar to the lights you would find around a theatre. What I like best about this design is the simplicity of it. It isn't overbearing and cluttered, it's easy to ready and the composition isn't typical.
